John Buscaglia [1952 – 2021] had been turning wood for over 30 years. His work included bowls, platters, lamps, mallets, hour glasses, lidded boxes, and rolling pins fashioned of maple, cherry, black walnut, and wood from century-old apple trees. Frequently asymmetrical, his designs contrasted rough natural bark with buttery-smooth polished surfaces. He avoided hard, glossy finishes that resemble factory-made plastic surfaces, in favor of a soft, satin sheen, which evokes the inherent beauty of the wood.
